David M. Kirby
David Kirby is the founder and Managing Director of Kirby Capital
Advisors, an alternative investments advisory and placement agency
firm established in 1994 that specializes in advising on and raising
institutional capital for alternative investment private
partnerships and operating companies. He has over thirty-two years
of direct investment industry experience, both as a pension plan
sponsor and as an advisor/ placement agent.
He has led and completed fund raising assignments for leveraged buyouts, venture capital, real estate, mezzanine debt, distressed debt and fund-of-funds partnerships for general partners located in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America. He has also placed secondary investments in such partnerships with other institutional investors.
He advises on and raises formation capital for new, start-up companies and expansion capital for operating businesses. He also provides strategic consulting services to firms regarding future fund raisings, due diligence and the formation of new investment vehicles.
Mr. Kirby has personally raised in excess of U.S. $3.6 billion-equivalent from more than a hundred separate institutional investors located in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia; individual commitments have ranged from U.S. $5 million to in excess of U.S. $100 million.
Prior to establishing Kirby Capital Advisors, he was for nearly five years the Chief Investment Officer of the Philip Morris (now Altria) pension plans, which initiated its alternative investments program during his tenure and which had roughly U.S. $10 billion in assets worldwide when he left.
Earlier, he had been Assistant Treasurer-Corporate Finance at Philip Morris and at General Foods, where he was responsible for commercial and investment banking relationships and raising capital for corporate acquisition programs. Preceding those positions, he had been Vice President at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, where he headed the international project finance group.
He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Bachelor Civil Engineering) and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Kirby Capital Advisors is located in New Canaan, Connecticut (approximately fifty miles from New York City). Mr. Kirby holds series 7, 24 and 63 security licenses.
